This thought provoking article argues that our addiction to clicking is diminishing our practice of thinking. The very speed of information on the web and the ease of hyperlinking from one page to another is making it more difficult to engage in reflection. Thinking takes time and effort. Clicking to yet another hyperlink is much easier than pausing and putting some thought into what we are viewing. Maybe even the term "browsing" is indicative of the problem. Browsing is not study, nor can it replace careful thought. However, it is often the way we stumble across those nuggets that merit time spent in careful thought.

Using a weblog as a way of responding to the information we come across on the internet has the advantage of forcing a moments reflection, filling the role of the margin in a book. True learning only takes place when we make some kind of response to information we are presented with.
