I've got the same problem as you, an I solved it.
There is no Driver within cups system, that supports the 5510 yet. During the installation with yast, I've tried all the time the 5110 model, it doesn't work.
Pleas try the Officejet 4100, 4110, or 4115! It works perfectly! If you need some instaructions for getting the scanner work too, mail me! I've found a solution in another forum for that too.
